You’ve done a lot to take care of yourself and keep life moving forward. From the outside, things may look steady or even successful, but internally you might feel disconnected from yourself, your body, or what you actually need.

Inside, you might feel more disconnected from yourself, your body, or what you actually need, sometimes pushing through exhaustion or staying busy so you do not have to slow down and notice how you are truly feeling.

You may have tried therapy or other ways of working on yourself and gained insight and perspective, yet still find yourself reacting in familiar ways, shutting down in certain moments, or noticing the physical effects of anxiety or past experiences in your body.

As a Boca Raton somatic therapist, I work with adults who are ready for therapy that includes both mind and body. Many people come in already sensing that lasting change involves working with their nervous system, not just thinking differently about their experiences.

When You’re Ready To Include Both Mind and Body in Therapy

Somatic therapy that brings both insight and the body into the process, so change can happen on more than just a mental level..

Sessions often move between conversation and slowing down together to notice what is happening in your body and emotional life in real time, sometimes through somatic practices and other times by simply staying present with what is unfolding.

Over time, many people notice shifts such as:

  • Feeling more aligned between insight and how you actually feel and respond

  • Recognizing patterns earlier without overanalyzing

  • Feeling more grounded and less hijacked by sudden spikes of anxiety or overwhelm

  • Making choices that feel clearer and more intentional

About Me

Boca Raton Somatic therapist, Amy Hagerstrom

Hi, I’m Amy.

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and Somatic Experiencing Practitioner (SEP) offering online therapy for adults in Boca Raton and throughout Florida.

I spent many years in talk therapy, and while it helped in some ways, the effects on my mental health felt limited. It was not until my body was brought into the healing process that things began to shift and feel more sustainable.

Now I am especially drawn to working with thoughtful adults who sense that what they are carrying lives in their body and nervous system as much as in their thoughts. I offer a steady, collaborative space to explore that at a pace that feels workable for you.

If you are in Boca Raton or anywhere in Florida, I would be honored to support you.

What You Might Be Navigating

You may recognize parts of yourself in more than one of these.

  • You have done a lot of work, yet parts of the past still show up in your body or in moments that feel out of proportion to what is happening now. You might shut down, feel distant, or notice stress responses in your body even when you understand why you feel the way you do.

  • You are holding it together, but underneath your mind races and your body feels tense or unsettled. It is hard to relax when it feels like something is always about to go wrong.

  • You are juggling a lot and wondering if this is how life is supposed to feel. Even with success, it is getting harder to ignore what you are feeling inside. You may be craving more meaning, space, or connection.

What is Somatic Therapy?

Soma means body. Somatic therapy integrates the body into the therapeutic process because thoughts, emotions, sensations, and experiences continuously influence one another. When we include the body in the work, therapy supports change in a way that feels more complete and sustainable.

In sessions, there is space for your thoughts, emotional experience, and nervous system responses. We pay attention to how fight, flight, freeze, and shutdown patterns are showing up in real time, and we work with what helps your system move toward greater felt safety. Some sessions feel quiet and inward; others may include gentle somatic practices that support your nervous system in shifting out of old patterns while you remain grounded and supported.

Somatic Experiencing (SE) is the foundation of my work, and when it fits, we may also integrate the Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP) or the Rest and Restore Protocol (RRP) as additional nervous system supports.

  • Noticing sudden waves of anxiety or intensity in your body

  • Experiencing physical symptoms like fatigue, tension, digestive concerns, or chronic pain

  • Feeling that talking alone hasn’t reached deeper layers of your experience

  • Recognizing that pushing through no longer feels sustainable

  • Feeling drawn toward a mind-body approach to therapy

Integrative Support That Considers the Whole You

Two adults in a calm yoga pose, reflecting moments of connection with the body and how movement can support nervous system and emotional health.

In addition to somatic therapy, I’m a Certified Integrative Mental Health Professional. This means we can also look at lifestyle and health factors that influence mood, energy, and nervous system resilience, including sleep, nutrition, light exposure, movement, stress load, and daily rhythm.

When it feels relevant, we’ll explore where small shifts might support the work we’re doing in therapy. And if it would be helpful to bring in more support, I can offer referrals to trusted professionals, such functional or integrative practitioners, dietitians, and other wellness providers.

The goal is simple: to support your mental health in a way that includes the full picture of you.
